Demi Lovato “had three strokes and a heart attack” after an overdose

“I had three strokes. I had a heart attack. My doctors said I still have five to ten minutes [to live]. ”

Demi Lovato reveals that her drug overdose was almost fatally much more serious than fans ever knew in a trailer for her upcoming four-part YouTube documentary, “Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil.”

The 28-year-old pop star said she hopes to ‘set the record’ on what really happened when she was admitted to hospital in 2018 due to an overdose of heroin.

“Over the last few years, I’ve heard a lot of stories about my life and what people think happened there, and I wanted to set the record,” Lovato said in the teaser. ‘If it can help you, I hope it can. It was ultimately my goal to highlight this: to help people along this path. ”

In remembrance of her overdose on July 24, 2018, Lovato says she ‘cracked’ despite her notable success at the time – with two songs that topped the charts and were just nominated for a Grammy.

“Demi is good at making you believe she’s OK,” says her stepfather, Eddie De La Garza. “Demi is very good at hiding what she has to hide,” adds her sister Madison De La Garza.

“She must be dead,” a friend added.

The trailer, which shares an excerpt from her upcoming song “Dancing With the Devil,” made its debut on Wednesday at the Television Critics Association’s winter tour in 2021. The series will apparently leave no stone unturned, as Lovato even discusses her now-failed relationship with Max Ehrich – and flashes her diamond ring before the next scene shows her and is ringless.

“I don’t even know why I’m sober anymore,” she states at some point later in the trailer, adding that she “really struggles” as she recovers.

Lovato also revealed that according to Billboard, the OD left her with brain damage and that she is unable to drive due to blindness in her vision. She also had to learn to read again after suffering serious eye damage.

“I left brain damage, and I still deal with the consequences of it today,” she said during the TCA event. “I do not drive a car because of blind spots in my vision … I read a lot.”

“I’ve had a lot of lives, like my cat, you know?” Lovato said. “I have my ninth life.”

“Dancing With the Devil,” which opens the SXSW Film Festival in March 2021, will air on March 23 on YouTube.
