Demi Lovato feels ‘more joy’ in her life, two years after her overdose

The pop star and actress touched deeply with ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ as she promoted her new documentary ‘Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil’ in an interview that aired this past weekend.

Lovato has spoken to her before about the fact that she suffers from an eating disorder and drug abuse, and now she is starting to reveal herself about how, even when she recovered for the things before her overdose, she was ‘unhappy’.

These days, she says she has control over everything, from her finances to what she eats, and takes full responsibility for the overdose, which she says has caused multiple strokes and brain damage.

“Regardless of what other people have said or done, my actions put me in the seat that is in front of you today,” she told CBS. “Unfortunately, no one can answer for my overdose, but I can.”

Lovato said she’s not completely sober, but rather ‘California sober’. She still drinks occasionally and smokes marijuana.

“I really do not feel comfortable explaining the parameters of my recovery to people,” she said. “Because I do not want people to look at my safety parameters and think that’s what works for them … because it might not be.”

At this point, Lovato says, she’s in a much better place.

“I feel so good,” she said. “I feel more joy in my life than I have ever felt because I do not silence or diminish any part of myself.”
