Debian 10.8 released with dozens of fixes, switch to more parallel build process

DEBIT -

Debian 10.8 as the latest quarterly Linux distribution update is now available ahead of Debian 11 expected later this year.

Debian 10.8 offers the latest stable release updates for “Buster” with dozens of package updates compared to 10.7. Debian 10.8 has a number of bug fixes, security updates for a wide range of different packages, offers the latest Steam package, an updated NVIDIA graphics driver package, updated time zone data, and a variety of other fixes / maintenance items.

The complete list of package updates with Debian 10.8 can be found via today’s release notice on Debian.org.

Striking with Debian 10.8 is that the project has improved its build scripts, which now allows the release photos to build “significantly more in parallel” and in turn can delay new versions much faster than previous versions. Debian developer Andrew Cater confirmed that the “embarrassment worked in parallel” in building the Debian release movies much faster.

Meanwhile, Debian 11 is now frozen, with the new package soft freezing starting within one week and the hard freezing starting mid-March. The rest of the Debian 11 release process has yet to be determined, while the stable Debian 11.0 would appear later this calendar year.
