FARMINGTON, Utah – Davis County Department of Health officials on Tuesday acknowledged an error that would require more than 50 people to get a third chance.

In a statement to FOX 13, the department said 53 people were injected with ‘salt’ and not the vaccine on Saturday due to a mixing error at the Farmington clinic. The person who administered the improper vaccine was new to the process and immediately reached out to clinic leaders.

According to the department, most of the 53 people have already received a third shot with the right dose of vaccination.

“This is a very rare incident, but everyone is human and everyone makes mistakes, and it’s a mistake that the health department belongs to,” the department said.

New investigations and procedures have meanwhile been instituted by the Department of Health. In addition, officials have gone through procedures with all vaccinations and offer them more training to “those who feel they need it.”
