Cyberpunk 2077 13 million copies sold, CD Project Red Founders lost $ 1 billion

The beleaguered Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13 million copies, but the founders of the CD CD Project Red lost $ 1 billion dollars.

Bloomberg reports that CD Project Red (on December 15, five days after the game’s launch) lost an estimated $ 1 billion dollars. The developer was founded by Marcin Iwiński and Michał Kiciński. Kiciński left the company in 2013, and Iwiński is the joint CEO of the company along with Adam Kiciński (who is also the president of the company).

We reported earlier how CD Projekt Red’s shares fell 29% just three days after the game’s launch. Bloomberg reported that total shares fell by a third.

According to Business Insider, shares closed at € 98.80 EUR per share on December 4 and closed at € 60.72 on December 30 – the first time the share value has risen since the decline. The company’s shares had previously fallen to € 73.80 per share on 30 October (shortly after announcing the final delay for the competition), and € 50.00 per share on 12 March.

Bloomberg also reported that analytical estimates for Cyberpunk 2077Sales over 12 months dropped from 30 million to 25.6 million after the game was launched. However, CD Project has revealed that the game has sold more than 13 million copies since December 20th. This figure is after consideration of refund requests by email directly to the developer.

CD Projekt Red announced earlier that the game has been sold 8 million copies by pre-order; consists of 59% computer and 41% consoles, with 74% digital and 26% physical.

As previously reported, the numerous delays and leaked footage of the game were not the end of the misery for CD Project Red. One reviewer suffered a severe epileptic seizure and accused the developer of basing the Braindance headset on a medical device designed to cause intentional seizures.

Despite much praise from the initial reviews, the Metacritic user’s score was much less. Currently, the Metascore for the computer version of the game is 86, with a user rating of 7.2 (out of 10). Meanwhile, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users’ scores are 3.4 and 4.7 respectively (with Metascores of 54 and 61 respectively).

It should be noted that those who have not played the game may also submit user reviews, as Metacritic does not confirm whether the user has completed or played a game. In February, for example, a Reset Era user organized the revision bombing AI: The Somnium Files.

Metacritic posted a 36-hour grace period on video game user reviews in July this year. Metacritic would later insist that this decision was not motivated by reactions to a particular game. That year also says low user ratings for Warcraft III: Reforged, en The Last of Us Part II.

Users complained about Cyberpunk 2077‘s numerous bugs and errors, along with poor optimization, and the console version with inferior graphics. CD Project Red had to recommend fans to finish the game quickly and avoid too many items to prevent corruption of savings files, which were later pasted. Even critics’ reviews praising the game also discussed the issues.

CD Project Red apologized for advertising and launching the game, and offered full refunds. However, two lawsuits have been filed by investors – one in Poland is also a lawyer.

According to an investor call from Q&A, CD Projekt Red was denied that they had special agreements for repayment Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles, and that they worked on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game “until the last moment. ”

Both Sony and Microsoft have said they will refund the full amount. Sony would remove the game from the PlayStation Store, but there was’no conversationsFrom Microsoft removing it from them.
