CVS gives incorrect COVID-19 vaccine dose to patients :: WRAL.com

A Massachusetts CVS is contacting patients who received the COVID-19 vaccine at their location to notify them of a dosing error.

The pharmacy said a limited number of patients who received the Moderna vaccine on Monday accidentally received smaller doses than they should have received.

Carol Kennedy Hurley said she was still shaking her head after the pharmacist notified her of the dosing error.

“You know, you’re just so shocked,” Hurley said.

According to CVS, a limited number of patients who received the vaccine at the Central Street location on Monday received 0.3 milliliters of Moderna vaccine instead of the usual dose of 0.5 ml.

“So I think the basic word is trust,” Hurley said. “This is what it really boils down to, and who do you trust from the start with this whole pandemic?”

According to doctors, there is no reason for patients like Hurley to get an extra dose, and despite the mess, she may get the second time next month, as planned.

“We know because we are humans, there can be mistakes, especially if we try to vaccinate with two different vaccines,” said Dr. Gabriela Andujar Vasquez said.

CVS issued a written statement in part stating: ‘We have contacted all affected patients to apologize and answer questions’ and ‘we have reported this to the appropriate regulatory agencies.’

Hurley said no one apologized to her.

“They just gave me the information and it was really nonchalant,” she said.

CVS said it has since made changes to ensure future accidents are avoided.
