City of Chicago Closes 2 NYE Parties, Multiple COVID-19 Quotes Issued – NBC Chicago

City officials shut down two parties nearly every night and issued seven notices to businesses for violating COVID-19 restrictions.

But overall, the Department of Business and Consumer Protection reported a high level of compliance and a ‘relatively quiet night’ of enforcement, as Chicago in 2021 reads.

City officials said they were responding to 21 calls for violations of COVID-19 regulations.

The toughest measures were taken against The Dugout, 950 W. Addison St., which was halted until further notice after police and firefighters discovered a “large gathering with too much capacity,” the department said.

The city also closed a party when it was set up at a repaired car repair shop in 748 W. 91st in the Brainerd area, officials said.

Four other notices were handed over to hotels that were crowded into guest rooms or in the lobby, including the Congress Plaza Hotel in the Loop.

Officers responded to the hotel at about 10:35 a.m. in the 500 block of South Michigan Avenue and found at least one room exceeding capacity, according to a police spokesman.

The hotel received a warning along with three others: The Best Western, 1101 S. Michigan Ave .; the Godfrey Hotel, 127 Huron St .; and EuroStars Hotel, at 660 N. State St.

Before New Year’s Eve, the city partnered with the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association to distribute regulatory notices to hotels to comply with COVID-19 regulations, the department said.

The city has cited at least 370 businesses for violating coronavirus restrictions since the pandemic began in March. The latest number of cases comes about three months after the city’s ban on indoor food and service work in October.
