EXCLUSIVE: The critical success of Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, Oscar-nominated writers Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo will once again embark on their first adventure with Disney: an untitled film Cinderella Evil Stepsisters. Sources add that it is currently unknown whether Wiig and Mumolo will also star in the film as it is in development so early. Insiders also add that even if they were to appear in the film along the way, it would not be as step-sister as the plan to be played by younger actresses.
The film is a fairytale musical comedy that re-imagines the Cinderella classic from the point of view of her infamous evil step-sisters. Through their early childhood through the marriage of their step-sister and beyond, we follow Anastasia and Drizella Tremaine as they struggle to maintain the legacy of their family.

Wiig and Mumolo, nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay for Bridesmaids, is currently co-writing the untitled film. Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell of Gloria Sanchez Productions will produce.
The project is just one of the handful in which Disney puts its famous antagonists at the forefront. His photo of the Cruella de Vil Cruella with Emma Stone in the lead role in May, and the studio is also developing Gaston and LeFou, a Mother-in-law and the Beast prequel TV series for Disney + with Luke Evans and Josh Gad repeating their roles.
Wiig and Mumolo’s partnership goes back to their school days at Groundlings Theater & School, which they both attended. This friendship would eventually lead to them Bridesmaids screenplay, which was not only a big hit, but also earned the duo their first Oscar nomination. A decade later, the two will reunite for Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, which was offered on request in February. While Lionsgate did not release figures, a source close to the project said the film exceeded expectations in sales too much and also owns the opening weekend on social media. The film is currently number 3 on the Redbox on-demand card.
Besides Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, Wiig also plays opposite Gal Gadot as Cheeta in Wonder Woman 1984. Wiig will start production this summer MacGruber 2, a television series for NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service starring Will Forte and co-writing. Wiig will also lend her vote for the next installment of the Despicable I franchise.
Mumolo is known on the acting side for his roles in Judd Apatow’s It’s forty, the STX blockbuster Bad moms and The boss. Television credits play a regular role in NBC comedy About a boy, a recurring role on Amazon’s Transparent and Netflix’s Lady Dynamite. She is currently working on various acting and writing projects and will see in next time Queenpins with Kristen Bell and Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
