Chromecast with Google TV Gets Security Series for December

Google’s latest Chromecast is one of the best streaming devices out there, and in the Android TV world it’s also one of the better fans. Today, another Google TV update to Chromecast launches, bringing the December 2020 security level together.

Update version QTS2.200918.033 is now available for the Chromecast with Google TV, and is an update of 78.20 MB. As usual with Chromecast updates, Google has not released an official list of changes to describe what’s new. Fortunately, there are a few things we can gather right away.

First of all, this update brings the Chromecast with Google TV to the December 2020 security solution, compared to the previous September patch. It’s not uncommon for Android TVs to lag behind on these patches, and even with about three patches behind, the new Chromecast still ranks in a better place than most other devices on the platform.

In addition, some users have anecdotally noticed that the Chromecast with Google TV seems to work better on 4k60 with some TVs after this update in December. The new Chromecast has always supported 4k60, but some TVs have not played very well with the functionality, or do not recognize that the Chromecast can support it, or need some other setting adjustments to make everything work properly. If you are having problems, this update maybe help out.

Finally, there is another remote Chromecast update that is bundled with this update. After you install the main system update, another update for the remote control is available in Settings.
