Chicago police cancel holidays amid ‘events across the country’

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) has canceled the holidays for certain members until further notice amid “events across the country” as parts of the U.S. are grappling with unrest following the shooting at Daunte Wright in Minnesota.

The Windy City Police Department announced late Monday that members of its community safety, critical incident response and summer mobile patrol teams would no longer be able to take days off, as well as ‘all area detectives and additional specialized teams’.

The announcement, made on a CPD Twitter account, further indicates that the department is “closely monitoring events across the country.”

“Although there is currently no workable intelligence, CPD will, out of an abundance of caution, use additional resources across the communities, retail corridors and the downtown business district,” the tweet read.

Tensions have flared in parts of the country over the past few days as communities respond to news of police shooting at Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Minnesota father. Further concerns about possible unrest are the expected news of a verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial, which is expected to be pronounced in Hennepin County as early as next week.

Locally, Chicago police or guard dog officials are also expected to release police camera footage this week during the March 13 shooting of Adam Toledo.

On Monday, hundreds of protesters gathered in Minnesota for hours after a twilight-to-day issue was announced by the governor to expose Wright’s shooting. When protesters did not disperse, police began firing with gas cans and grenades, clouds blowing over the crowd and chasing away some protesters. Forty people were arrested. Thirteen arrests have been made in neighboring Minneapolis, including burglary and burglary, police said.

A Minneapolis Police Department spokesman told Fox News last week that the agency had already canceled holidays for its officers and had a predetermined schedule if we decided to go after 12 p.m.

In Portland, Oregon, police said a protest on Monday night over the shooting turned into a riot, with some in the crowd throwing stones and other projectiles at officers.

Portland Police Department did not respond to Fox News’ request for information regarding any further departmental measures.

Spokesmen for the Los Angeles Police Department and Seattle Police Department said their agencies have not released any plans so far.

“We will continue to monitor the situation in Minnesota and will continue to plan our personnel accordingly, knowing that we need to be flexible,” Seattle Police Sgt. Randall Huserik wrote in an email to Fox News.
