Chicago area schools announce closure, move to e-learning amid winter storm – NBC Chicago

As heavy snow is expected to hit the Chicago area Tuesday morning, dozens of school districts have canceled classes or announced they will go to e-learning due to the weather.

According to the latest updates from the Emergency Closing Center website, numerous districts have announced that they will cancel the classes in full or go to e-learning due to the severe weather.

According to Mayor Lori Lightfoot, an announcement about Chicago Public Schools classes is expected Monday at 5 p.m.

Several colleges have also announced the cancellation of personal classes, including the Northern Illinois University of DeKalb. All classes after Monday at 5pm will be moved online for the rest of the day.

All personal classes at the University of Chicago were canceled on Monday at 14:30 and the cancellations will last until 12:00 on Tuesday.

Non-essential activities are also canceled.

According to university officials, DePaul University’s Lincoln Park and Loop campuses will close Monday night and close Tuesday due to inclement weather.

All personal lessons are canceled, and online classes may be resumed according to schedule. The school appeals to personal lessons to, if possible, switch to distance education.

The campus of the University of Illinois-Chicago closes Monday at 4 p.m., the school announced on social media.

The Kankakee Community College closes its facilities on Monday at 14:00 and will remain closed on Tuesday. The school said all learning would move to remote learning format.

Purdue University Northwest and Indiana University Northwest were also closed due to the inclement weather.
