Carey Mulligan’s ‘SNL’ opening monologue crashed by Marcus Mumford – deadline

Tonight, Carey Mulligan made her debut as host Saturday Night Live, talks in her opening monologue about how nice it is to be outside the house.

‘Oh my goodness. It’s so wonderful to be here. They just told me I was the first English person to ever present this show, ‘she jokes,’ and as I say it out loud, I realize it may be untrue. ‘(British actor Daniel Kaluuya presented the program just last week.)

As production closed for much of 2020, Mulligan quarantined a year in the English countryside with her husband, Marcus Mumford (lead singer of the group Mumford & Sons) and her two young children. “It’s very exciting to be somewhere where shops are open,” she admitted. “I never thought I would say that, but walking into a banana republic was a magical experience.”

During the exclusion, Mulligan said she drove her “dramatic energy” into her children’s bedtime stories. “They have become much taller, very recently divorced dragons and unicorns with secret pill habits,” she joked. “My children will be like, ‘Mom, please. It’s two in the morning. Let’s sleep. ‘I’m so excited to be here tonight and let out some of the energy. ”

It was especially exciting for Mulligan to appear on SNL, since her husband and his band have appeared as musical guests three times in the past. Mumford was reportedly watching his wife’s appearance from home. But later Mumford appears in the audience, and Mulligan makes a surprise.

“What a surprise, wonderful to see you,” she said. “Um, where are the kids?”

“I left them with the Boys,” Mumford kicked to death. “I will not miss it for the world.”

Since he first performed SNL, Mumford said he could not get the experience out of his head, and he encouraged Mulligan to get as much out of it as possible. ‘I wanted to ask,’ he continued, ‘did they book a musical guest for tonight? If they finally need someone, I’m very happy to do so. ”

Then he pulls out his acoustic guitar, which he starts honking to the tune of his hit song, ‘Little Lion Man’.

Unfortunately for Mumford, he already has his musical guest in Kid Cudi tonight, who is also making his first appearance in the program.

A two-time Oscar-nominated Mulligan was recently in the spotlight with her turn in Emerald Fennell’s dark comic revenge thriller, Promising young woman.
