Call of Duty Warzone is a teasing event (slow)

With the arrival of Call of Dutyseason 2 on February 25, zombies put the story in the spotlight. Black Ops Cold War has an amazing Zombies “Break Out” mode, en War zone‘s Verdansk map found a ship full of dead. War zone is slowly infested by the dead, leading to a potential new mode or map.

When the Vodianoy cargo ship crashed on the shores of Verdansk two weeks ago, it was clear that some of the zombies on board were going to be released. Yesterday’s update spreads the infection along the southeastern part of the map to Verdansk’s prison. The zombie infection did not spread as most would expect, while the ship was an infected area. Instead, the dead just abandoned the Vodianoy ship, and they now set up camp in prison.

Zombies can be caused in the same way in prison as at the Vodianoy shipwreck, by activating a machine to start a zombie killing event. Killing a specific number of zombies will give access to a special outdoor closet with items such as high weapons and a gas mask. But it’s very likely that these zombie infestations are more than just a little equipment.

There’s a possibility it’s just teasing a new Zombies mode War zone. But this spread of the dead is strongly teased by War zone developers Raven software and the Call of Duty blog, which makes it easy to assume that something big is going to hit Verdansk.

Part of yesterday’s blog declares that ‘immediate exfil and subsequent fumigation are recommended.’ There was also rumors of a “plague” mode Come on War zone, which would be necessary to survive a zombie outbreak and filtering the map, otherwise a nucleus would end the game.

Some players speculate that this will lead to an uncontrollable outbreak that will end with the entire Verdansk map being scrapped to contain the distribution, thus eventually ushering in an era of the Cold War. War zone map. This theory fits in well with War zone‘s constant reminder that Verdansk is sitting on a bunch of core heads. The nuclear bunkers keep their doors open and tease those heads, so maybe zombies are indeed the looming threat that makes all those nukes explode.

The Verdansk map never reached its full potential, and landscape updates were scarce, but I still enjoyed my time there. I have many memories of strangers with friends, like War zone made a big distraction last year during unusual times. With that said, I’m all for it to feast on and start fresh. An outbreak of zombies could be a fun way to tackle Verdansk, but I doubt the event will be the satisfying end many hope for.

Bring BOCW's Mimics to Warzone

My biggest concern is that all this build-up for a Zombies gathering will decay at a fluttering, corpse-like pace. Last year’s preliminary run-up to War zonesay “Know your history” live event dragged on for weeks. I was a big fan of getting the community involved with squeaky cookies and Easter egg puzzles in the game, but if you pull something out long enough, it loses the excitement.

This is possibly the weekly War zone updates will infect a different place each time, and it will only remain the same until we finally come to the conclusion of season 2. The season is barely underway, and it will probably end at the end of April, so we have a long way to go until we reach the final final point that the developers are cooking.

I would love to see Raven Software really speed up this infection process, giving us a complete Zombies-infested map with interesting modes and twists. Maybe add some of the big “elite” zombies Cold War‘s Zombies mode, or contains some mini Easter eggs to solve. We’ll see what happens next.
