Call Of Duty bait is a fugitive from hiding, leading to his arrest

A wanted refugee in the UK has been arrested after coming out of hiding to buy a copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Police officers in Birmingham, England arrested an armed refugee when he broke cover to buy Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. While the arrest ended in a violent fight, none of the officers were seriously injured during the arrest. Black Ops Cold War, the latest game in the hugely popular first-person-shooter series, released in November last year.

While video games can be an unparalleled source of entertainment and fun, the industry also has a fair share of immoral activities. A Japanese man was recently arrested after sending 37 death threats to video publisher Square Enix. The man, Toshiyuki Kan, was apparently furious about his experience in the Enix Quest game Dragon Quest of the Stars. Kan’s death threats were the latest in a series of incidents in which gamers sent threats to Square Enix offices due to a negative reaction to the publisher’s games.

According to ABC News‘Police in Twitter, Birmingham, England arrested a fugitive after breaking the COVID-19 quarantine to go shopping Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Officers approached two men for suspicious behavior and asked for their information after their video game statement did not justify a quarantine interruption. After a false name, one of the men attacked the officers, leading to a fight before officers detained him. It was then discovered that the offender was Clint Butler, an armed refugee who had served a 17-year prison sentence. Butler was then returned to prison with an additional sentence for assault and violation of justice.

Unfortunately, the Call of Duty series has had a recent history of tragic news headlines. Last month a 19-year-old Call of Duty Mobile ESports player Ingrid Oliveira Bueno has been killed by a fellow Brazilian. The premeditated murder shocked the eSports community and led to bigger talks about violence against women in the country. The killer, Guilherme Alves Costa, was arrested after he recorded the murder and sent it via WhatsApp to the eSports organization. More recently a U.S. Navy, female Call of Duty Warzone stream, called the “Women of Warzone”, was bombarded with fire and bomb emojis. The spam was intended to acknowledge and protest the recent bombings by the U.S. military in the Middle East after the text chat was eliminated.

The Call of Duty series is very popular all over the world and is played by all kinds of people. However, Clint Butler’s dedication to the franchise eventually cost him his freedom. Armed robbery and elusive prisons are no laughing matter, but Butler’s boredom after a COVID-19 quarantine still drove him to break cover and expose himself to justice.
