Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen and Netflix this morning announced an official renewal of season 2 for the comprehensive Regency romance series.
In an interview on Today with Hoda and Jenna, he also confirmed that season 2 describes the marriage activities of Bridgerton’s oldest brother, Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey, as depicted in Julia Quinn’s second book. Bridgerton series, The Burgh Count who loved me.
The shift in emphasis raises questions about the future in the show of the romantic lead roles of season 1, Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor. Their bow is nicely wrapped at the end of Season 1, based on the first book in Quinn’s series, The Duke and I. It focused on the complicated romance between the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne (Dynevor), and the Duke of Hastings Simon Bassett (page).

“I hope so,” Van Dusen said when asked if the characters from Page and Dynevor are back next season. “They are, of course, the Duke and Duchess of Hastings, but in my mind they will always be Bridgertons, and I think they will always be part of the show.”
Dynevor shared with Deadline last week that she is in the dark about her future in the program.
“I really have no idea what they’re going to do with the second season, but I can imagine that if they follow the books, it would be Anthony’s journey,” she said. ‘I’m sure Daphne will eventually get involved. But yes, I do wonder what it looks like. I’m excited to find out. ”
He has confirmed that production of season 2 will start in late spring in London.
“We have a bunch of new characters that we’re going to introduce,” Van Dusen said.. “Anthony will have a love interest next season, and I think it’s going to be as sweeping and moving and as beautiful as the viewers of the first season of the show expected.”
The love interest that Van Dusen probably refers to is Kate Sheffield, the female romantic lead opposite Anthony Bridgerton in The Burgh Count who loved me.
Anthony comes to the heartbreaking end of his relationship with opera singer Siena.
“We left him at a crossroads at the end of the first season, so I look forward to jumping in and discovering how he is doing in the marriage market,” Van Dusen said.
The Bridgerton book series consists of eight novels, each revolving around the love life of one of the Bridgerton brothers and sisters, and Van Dusen indicated earlier that he wants to follow the format with a season dedicated to each of the siblings .
Season 1 production was packed in February, just when the pandemic hit big. During her interview, Dynevor was unsure about how the lavish series, featuring hundreds of background artists and a number of sex scenes, would be filmed under Covid security protocols. “I can not imagine how it would be possible to film under these circumstances,” she said. ‘There are so many extras and so many crew members, and it’s a very intimate show. It just amazes me how we would film it under Covid rules unless there was a vaccine beforehand. ‘
