Boiling Water Notice in effect for approximately 100,000 Fort Worth Residents – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

About 100,000 residents of Fort Worth in the north are being asked to boil their water before consumption after a power outage at a water treatment plant, the city said.

The boiling water notice applies primarily to people living north of Interstate Loop 820, near Interstate 35W, US Highway 287 and Eagle Mountain Lake. The city said the expectation is that the notice will remain until at least Wednesday afternoon.

The notice comes after the Eagle Mountain Water Plant and raw water pumping station in the 6800 block of Bowman Roberts Road lost power according to the city of Fort Worth on Monday afternoon. The plant experienced several interruptions on Monday.

A large portion of Texas experienced an uninterrupted power outage on Monday due to the winter weather in the state.

According to the city, water was drained in a water tank on the north side, leaving many customers without water. Once the water pressure is restored, those without water will have access again, but they will be asked to boil it before using it.

The notice on water cooking is to ensure the destruction of harmful bacteria for drinking, cooking and ice cream. The city said water should be brought to a boil two minutes before use.

Residents will be notified once the kettle notice is no longer in effect.
