Billie Eilish won a record of the year for the second consecutive year, but when she took to the stage to accept the award, she said Megan Thee Hings was the one who deserved it, and asked the audience for the rapper instead of encouraging her.
Eilish, 19, won the awards during last year’s ceremony, but that did not help her win the most prestigious Grammy this year for her song “Everything I Wanted”. When Ringo Starr, the presenter of the award, read out her name, Eilish looked shocked. She sat down with Finneas, her brother and collaborator, on stage and said, “This is really an embarrassment to me,” before drawing the attention of Megan Thee Stallion, who has won three awards, including Best New Artist.
“I would write a speech about how you deserve it, but then I was like: there is no way they are going to choose me,” Eilish said. “I was like it’s his. You deserve it. ‘
She continues: ‘You’ve had a year that I think is indisputable. You’re a queen. I want to cry and think how much I love you. ‘
Megan Thee Stallion was nominated in the category for ‘Savage (Remix)’, with Beyoncé winning for best rap song and best rap performance.
Eilish also beats Beyoncé’s Black Parade, Dua Lipa’s Don’t Start Now ‘, DaBaby’s Rockstar’ with Roddy Ricch, Doja Cat’s Say ‘, Post Malone’s’ Circles ‘and’s Colors’ Pumas.
