Barack Obama is working on the podcast game. Today, Spotify announced that former president and rock star Bruce Springsteen – yes, you read that right – will present a program called Renegades: Born in the USA exclusively for the audio platform. They discuss ‘race, fatherhood, marriage and the state of America’ according to a press release, and the first two episodes will be premiered today for both free and premium Spotify users. The first season features eight episodes.
Higher Ground, the production company owned by Michelle and Barack Obama, signed an agreement with Spotify in 2019 to commit themselves to creating exclusive podcasts for the platform. Delegates is the second of those shows. The Michelle Obama Podcast debuted on Spotify this past summer and was later made available on various platforms, including Apple Podcasts. Spotify said the program was the largest Spotify Original show ‘in history’, but it did not share specific numbers. Presumably, this program will be just as big, if not bigger, giving Spotify even more of a chance to bring people to its platform for podcasts.
