BAFTA Awards 2021 Nominations Revealed

The nominations in 2021 are the first to come after a major overhaul and revision of the rules and regulations of the film awards that emerged after the #BAFTAsSoWhite controversy in 2020.

Nomadland and Rocks leads the group of nominees for the BAFTA 2021 Awards in the most diverse list of nominations ever seen in the history of the British Academy, and comes just a year after being embroiled in the #BaftaSoWhite controversy, which provides an overview of 7 months and caused the rejuvenation of the mood. rules and regulations.

Chloe Zhao’s favorite awards season in the American West and Sarah Gavron’s coming of age drama about a group of London schoolgirls each won seven nominations, with The father, Mank, Minari and Promising young woman not far behind with six. The digging and The Mauritanian earn five.

The director category in which four female filmmakers were nominated was one of the most important highlights from an extremely eclectic list of nominations (of which 50 different films were nominated (compared to a previous high of 39)). .

Elsewhere, the performance categories – a year after being heavily criticized for being completely white – are the most diverse in the awards history and also blend established talent with rising stars. While the two-time BAFTA film winner and Anthony Hopkins received his seventh nomination, for Die Father, newcomer Bukky Bakray, the 18-year-old principal of Rocks, earned her very first (and from her first film role). Bakray is among 21 of the 24 names in the categories for execution that garnered their first BAFTA nominations.

This year, the awards themselves take place during the weekend of April 10, April 11, with two programs virtually broadcast from the London Royal Albert Hall. The first screening will celebrate the artwork of film, with the second covering performance, talent and others above the line categories.
