Atletico Madrid Transfers A replacement for Diego Costa
Followend Diego Costa‘s departure, Atletico Madrid had to go to the transfer market to find a possible replacement, and managed to do so while closing Lyon Moussa Dembele.
Los Rojiblancos also posted Real Sociedad forward Willian Jose on their radar, but they finally decided to move to the Frenchman.
As MARCA reported Thursday, Dembele was one of the favorites to replace Costa, with the 24-year-old striker likely to join Atletico on loan.
No mandatory call option will be included in the agreement between the two parties, and its future will depend on its action until June.
Dembele, who is currently being sidelined by a broken arm, has struggled this season at Lyon for whom he put on some excellent performances in the 2019/20 campaign when he scored 16 goals in Ligue 1.
He also beat twice in the Champions League quarter-final Manchester City to help Lyon eliminate the Sky Blues and advance to the 2019/20 semi-finals.
The similarity between Lyon and Atletico Madrid has yet to be sealed, but all indications are that a total agreement can be reached soon.
If confirmed, Atleti will be a goal scorer with virtues other than those of Luis Suarez to their group.
Dembele is expected to recover by mid-February, but Los Rojiblancos believes he can return to action in a few weeks.
The Frenchman will try his luck abroad again, following his game Fulham and Celtic, where he began to show a glimpse of his talent.
