Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs, Disappointed with Eric Bieniemy, Happy for David Culley Appointing NFL Coach

KANSAS CITY, Ma. Kansas City coach Andy Reid has expressed disappointment that offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been transferred to an NFL head coach starting for the third year in a row.

‘I’m glad I got him [for at least another season]”But I’m not so glad I have him,” Reid said Thursday after the Chiefs started training for Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “I really hoped he would get the opportunity to take one of these jobs. You know what I think of him. I think he’s great. I think he’s going to be great for any number of teams that will help them “winning football. games and also developing men into men. I just think he’s a wonderful person.”

Bieniemy, in his third season as Chiefs coordinator, led for six openings for the head coach this year. He has also conducted interviews for several openings over the past two years.

One of Reid’s former assistants, David Culley, got a head coaching job at the Houston Texans. Culley coached 18 seasons for Reid, including from 2013 to 2016 with the Chiefs as wide receiving coach.

“David will work well,” Reid said. “He is a people person. He will bring energy to the building. One of the most loyal guys I’ve ever had. He is a wonderful person. We were together for 18 years. We had a few cheeseburgers together. ‘
