NEW YORK (AP) – Amanda Gorman, the 22-year-old poet who captured hearts during the inauguration of President Joe Biden, posted on social media that she was followed home by a security guard demanding to know where she lives because she’s suspicious. ”
“I showed me my keys and blew myself into my building,” she tweeted the incident Friday night. “He’s gone, no excuse. This is the reality of black girls: one day you are called an icon, the next day a threat. ‘
Gorman, the country’s youngest first poet, lives in Los Angeles but did not specify where the encounter took place. Her spokeswoman did not immediately send an e-mail on Saturday to comment further.
The message was received with thousands of support messages on Twitter and Instagram. She follows up her message with a second remark that reads:
“In a sense, he was right. I AM A THREAT: a threat to injustice, to inequality, to ignorance. Anyone who speaks the truth and walks with hope is an obvious and fatal danger to the powers that be. A threat and pride. “
Gorman became an instant sensation on January 20 when she read her poem, “The Hill We Climb,” during Biden’s swearing-in.
