Alexey Navalny says he will return to Russia on Sunday after poisoning

“There was never a question for me whether I would return or not, never. Just because I did not leave. I ended up in Germany after arriving there in an intensive care unit. On January 17, Sunday, I will return. “Go home on Pobeda flight. Meet me,” Navalny tweeted on Wednesday.

On Monday, the Russian prison authorities sent an official request to the court in which he asked to replace his suspended sentence in a years-old case with an actual prison sentence.

Russian authorities launch new criminal investigation into opposition leader Alexey Navalny

The Russian Federal Criminal Service has said that by staying in Germany, Navalny violated the terms of his suspended sentence in the so-called Yves Roche case, which Navalny is believed to be politically motivated.

In a video address posted on his Instagram account, the activist said new criminal cases against him had been ‘demonstratively fabricated’ in Russia and an attempt to prevent him from returning to his homeland.

The anti-corruption activist is currently in Germany after receiving treatment at the Charite Clinic in Berlin.

Navalny was poisoned with the poison Novichok in August and nearly died. The Kremlin has repeatedly denied any involvement.

Russia launched a new fraud and prison threat against Navalny at the end of 2020, increasing the pressure on him.

This is a breaking story, more to follow.
