Aggressive squirrels terrorizing and injuring residents in the New York area

A neighborhood in New York is being terrorized by hyper-aggressive squirrels. Check out a post about the rodent rampage here:

Some residents of Rego Park, Queens, are now afraid to go outside after a spate of squirrel attacks in the area.

Micheline Frederick is one victim whose bite wounds still heal after her fish was assaulted.

Speaking to WCBS-TV, she said: “You hear someone was bitten by a squirrel, you’re like ‘Okay, you have a small pen tip, what’s the matter?’ But it was … it was an MMA cage match! And I lost! “

‘We struggle in the snow and there’s blood everywhere and my fingers are chewed and it will not loosen.

“Eventually it just stopped and there I was a big bloody mess.”

Micheline received a rabies shot as a precaution after the December 21 attack and tried to warn her neighbors – but there is little that can be done if they strike.

Vinati Singh said the squirrels ‘run aggressively behind people’, including her husband on two occasions.

He said: “He basically grabbed the plastic bag I had and tried to climb up my leg. I was able to shake them off. It was the first time.

“The second time was here when I tried to get in.”

At least three other people in the area have reported being attacked by a squirrel, but it is not clear if it is just one psychotic fella or some kind of cruel squirrel cartel terrorizing the area.

Traps have now been laid, but the culprit / culprits have not yet been caught. Meanwhile, Anita Singh Sood takes no chances.

Speaking to ABC7 NY, she said: “If we have to leave the house, we have to carry one of Mom’s homemade pepper spray, to make sure – because when the squirrel comes to us, we spray it.”

The NYC Department of Health said the squirrels probably did not have rabies.

It says: ‘The NYC Department of Health has received a complaint about an aggressive squirrel in Rego Park and has advised the property owner to rent a trap in New York State.

Squirrels and many other small rodents are rarely infected with rabies.

“If New Yorkers believe they have spotted an animal infected with rabies, they should report it to 311.”
