Additional UK variant found – deadline

The Los Angeles Department of Public Health has confirmed two additional cases of the British variant of COVID-19, containing a total of 14 cases in LA County.

The new variant, classified as B.1.1.7, is known to be more contagious than the Wuhan strain of COVID-19. Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer is pushing even harder with the possible increase in cases due to the newly introduced coronavirus variant. ‘With the UK variant spreading in the province, we’ll probably see more cases identified in the province. We must remain diligent with our safety measures, even though we are seeing an overall decrease in cases, hospitalizations and deaths. Let us watch, because we know that the failure of our wait will lead to more cases and, tragically, more deaths, ”Ferrer said.

The Department of Public Health also confirmed 136 deaths and 2,393 new cases of coronavirus in LA County. To date, the department has counted 1179,063 cases in all parts of LA province with 19,793 deaths.

There are currently 2,498 hospitalizations in LA County, a decrease of 30% compared to the 3,426 admitted to the hospital the previous week. Of all current hospitalizations, 30% are in the ICU.

Today’s positivity rate was 3.8%, down 1.5% from the previous week by 5.3%.

Residents under the age of 50 make up 64% of the new cases of coronavirus reported today, and residents between the ages of 18 and 49 manage most of these cases. Residents 65 years and older represent 71% of reported deaths, although they account for only 15% of new cases.
