Chicago police and suburban Evanston say at least four people were killed, including the gunman, and at least four others were critically injured during a shooting in both cities on Saturday.

Police originally reported that four victims were killed in the shooting, but a woman shot in an IHOP restaurant in Evanston is still fighting for her life on Sunday morning, according to an updated statement from authorities.

The man who was allegedly responsible for the shooting, identified as 32-year-old Jason Nightengale, was shot dead during a shootout with police outside the Evanston restaurant, which ended a string of killings that shocked the city. has.

The shooting started at about 13:50 on Saturday in the 5300 block of South East End Avenue when Nightengale entered a parking garage and fired shots at a 30-year-old man who was sitting in a vehicle.

Just five minutes later, Nightengale fired shots at a Chicago police vehicle investigating the previous shooting at the CVS location and hitting the vehicle. No one was hit during the incident.

Then Nightengale allegedly drove north to a CVS pharmacy near the Chicago-Evanston border, announcing a robbery Saturday night. After firing at least one shot there, which hit no one, he fled across the street to an IHOP restaurant.
