2 skiers cause an avalanche in Utah, 1 of which is still missing

A pair of skiers caused an avalanche near Park City, Utah, on Saturday and buried one of them, authorities said.

The search for the missing skier was canceled on Saturday night and would resume early Sunday, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

One of the two skiers was able to dig themselves out of the snow and go to their friend to make ‘life-saving efforts’ – but was forced to leave due to the ‘extreme avalanche danger in the area’, police said.

According to Fox 13 in Salt Lake City, it is unclear if the victim was still alive when the rescue was called off.

The sheriff refused to give any information about the victim until authorities contacted the person, the station said.
