2 arrested for assault using racial barriers on passengers, flight redirected to PHX

According to American Airlines, two women were arrested Thursday after verbally and physically assaulting other passengers and crew members on a flight diverted to Phoenix.

The airline said the flight was traveling from Dallas-Fort Worth to Los Angeles when it was reversed at about 5:15 p.m. due to an altercation with the customer.

After the flight arrived in Phoenix, local police officers removed and arrested two female passengers, who were later identified as 30-year-old Kelly Pichardo and 29-year-old Leeza Rodriguez because they allegedly verbally assaulted other customers and crew members and physically assaulted.

Phoenix police officers say the two women were using racial rights when a male passenger asked them to stop using bad language.

Pichardo allegedly spat at the man who then started recording the two women. Officials say that was when Rodriguez struck the man’s hand to stop him from picking them up.

American Airlines officials said: “Their behavior was disturbing and unacceptable, and they have been placed on our internal garbage list pending further investigation.”

Rodriguez was booked for disorderly conduct and Pichardo for assault and disorderly conduct

The flight continued to Los Angeles’ LAX and arrived without further incident.
