165,000 laying hens die in massive fire at Hickman’s Egg Farm in Tonopah

TONOPAH, AZ – Firefighters from various agencies were called in Saturday afternoon to fight a massive fire at Hickman’s Egg Farm in Tonopah.

The sheriff of Maricopa province said delegates and firefighters responded to the fire on the southern farm.

Officials say firefighters were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading.

A spokesman for Hickman’s Family Farms says 165,000 laying hens were tragically lost in the fire.

“We are devastated,” said Sharma Hickman, community manager.

Hickman thanked firefighters for their work and said without them, “It could have been much worse.”

Hickman also says that as Easter approaches, every egg laying is needed to meet demand.

Property loss was reported as a result of the fire, but it is unknown how much impact the fire was currently causing on the structure.
