ZTE Axon 20 5G release shows how the world’s first selfie camera works under the screen

The quest to banish the notch from modern smartphone design has led to some clever innovations, of which the latest selfie camera on the ZTE Axon 20 5G is below the screen.

The 32-megapixel camera hidden under the screen did not really impress us in our review of the device earlier this month, but it is a worthy sidewalk for the hole punch or pop-up selfie camera we saw in previous devices has. Now, a new breakdown video from YouTuber JerryRigEverything, gives us a closer look at exactly how the Axon 20’s sub-display camera works.

Aside from being just a general informative outline of the various components of a modern smartphone, the breakdown of Axon 20 shows us how ZTE actually uses two screens on top of each other (a small, square and low resolution on top of the selfie). camera and the OLED top panel) to allow the camera to peek at the user from below the lower screen.

It’s a first generation device, but it’s undoubtedly a sign of where the phone’s design will go in the future, as companies want to keep the edge-to-edge screen without the notches and recesses for things like selfie cams and fingerprint scanners.
