Zion Williamson intervenes in NBA health and safety protocols and does not play against LA Clippers

The New Orleans Pelicans announced Wednesday afternoon that Zion Williamson will miss the game against the LA Clippers on Wednesday night.

The Pelicans traveled to Los Angeles on Tuesday after being scheduled to begin a 13-day road trip of seven games Monday in Dallas. However, the game was postponed due to positive COVID-19 cases and contract tracking with the Mavericks.

It was unclear whether Williamson would miss more than Wednesday night’s game.

New Orleans did not add any other players to his injury report. The Pelicans would already be without Lonzo Ball (bilateral knee tendinopathy), while Eric Bledsoe was mentioned as doubtful (irritation to the right eye) and JJ Redick as probable (right thigh muscle density).

Williamson scored 21.9 points on 55.7% shooting and 8.1 rebounds in nine games this season. This is the first game he has missed this season.
