Celebrated voice actress Zendaya will vote for Lola Bunny in the coming year Space jam prosecute, Space Jam: A New Legacy. The film’s official Twitter account confirmed the news Saturday afternoon tweet, “Welcome to the Jam, @Zendaya.” Lola Bunny is, of course, the girlfriend of Bugs Bunny, as well as the subject of controversy earlier this year when her new character design was met with backlash from social media users. Director Malcolm D. Lee tells Entertainment weekly in March that the redesign came about as a result of a reconsideration of the original Space jam movie. “Lola was not politically correct,” Lee said of Lola from 1996. “It’s a children’s movie. Why is she in a harvest? It just felt unnecessary, but at the same time there is a long history of it in cartoons. Lee further explained that he wants the newer version of Lola to ‘reflect the authenticity of strong, capable female characters’. If anyone has the acting chops to tackle the task, it’s Zendaya.
