Why not break into a casino safe during a zombie apocalypse?
Netflix
The first trailer for director Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, about a group of mercenaries planning a Las Vegas casino heist during a zombie apocalypse, appeared Thursday. These days, Snyder is perhaps better known for superhero movies (and the Snyder Cut of Justice League, which aired on HBO Max on March 18), but his first feature film was the 2004 remake of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, so he knows his dead.
I’m not really sure why money is a concern in the zombie apocalypse, but for everyone their own. Snyder shared the trailer in a tweetand said, “What happens in Vegas should stay in Vegas.”
The trailer shows a now abandoned Las Vegas overrun by a massive horde of zombies. In true Vegas style, we even see an Elvis impersonator in the dead. We also see star Dave Bautista and his team tackling zombies with a serious firepower, while Matthias Schweighofer’s character covers the classic baseball bat with nails.
Bautista, or Drax the Destroyer from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, announced that the preview with a tweet Wednesday showing a photo of the actor and a large pile of bodies. Other stars include Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi and Tig Notaro.
Army of the Dead is available on Netflix on May 21st. And if you like the concept, you’re in luck. A film preview and anime series are planned for the deadline.
