YouTube TV adds offline download and 4K streaming

If the monthly price for all these streaming TV services will continue to rise, it’s the least to throw in new features and better video quality, right? This is what YouTube says you can expect from YouTube TV soon; today the company announced that in the coming weeks the service will introduce a new add-on package with 4K streaming, offline viewing and unlimited simultaneous streaming at home. ‘

Unfortunately, a YouTube TV spokesperson did not have much else to share other than the news at the highest level of these upcoming additions. It’s not clear if there will be restrictions on which channels or programs support offline downloads, nor does YouTube provide any examples of what content will be available in 4K. One would hope for some sporting events. Currently, customers have a maximum of three simultaneous streams, but it seems like YouTube will remove such restrictions once you watch from home.

Offline viewing is pretty rare among the streaming TV shows. With Hulu, you can download TV shows and movies on demand to watch offline, but this does not apply to recordings from its live TV service. Sling TV does not offer such features, nor does AT&T TV.

The “add-on package” language suggests that you pay more than the standard $ 65 monthly subscription to access these features. YouTube TV increased its basic subscription for it last year. But the company still advertises that, while costs are rising, YouTube TV still has no hidden fees and offers unlimited DVR space in the cloud. The service has more than 3 million customers.
