YouTube TV has announced that it will be bringing several premium features to the service.
When it comes to the best live TV cable servicefor most consumers, the subscription cost is probably the best. But features are just as important. A sports enthusiast might prefer unlimited DVR spaces, while a family of four might prefer watching multiple devices. YouTube TV expands its features with a newly announced Add-on option to stream or store apps in 4K offline.
YouTube TV’s base plan currently supports six individual user accounts and up to three concurrent streams. But YouTube says the same 4K add-on will also support ‘unlimited simultaneous streams at home’, which can be an attractive feature for larger families or in households with multiple people sharing the cost of the plan.
It’s all exciting, but YouTube does not currently share the cost of the package. If a spokesperson for Gizmodo’s comments is reached, it will only say that the fringe benefits will be included in “an optional member add-on”. (Hulu, for example, charges $ 10 per month in addition to the monthly subscription fee to support unlimited streams.) Timing is also unclear, and YouTube had nothing more to share when it came to commenting.
The features are definitely a welcome addition to an already great cable alternative, but pricing will be the key. YouTube TV’s base package – without any premium content through add-ons like Starz or Showtime – already costs $ 65 a month on its own. This is the same cost of Hulu with live TV, but both are starting to get pretty expensive if you are wild with additional entertainment packages and premium features.
Still, the 4K streaming push sounds promising. And especially now, while we are caged indoors, the best stream is possibly worth peeling off a few extra dollars a month.
