YouTube Music revisits ‘2020 year’

While we’re well into the new year, YouTube Music wants to make another effort to give users a 2020 Year in Review. Hopefully this repeat will be rolled out widely.

The Google streaming service first saw a “Year in Review” playlist of your top songs in November. It expanded widely in early December along with other genre compilations. A week later, some users received a ‘Your 2020 music journey’ with statistics.

This is what’s emailed, what subscribers really wanted from YouTube Music. However, this Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay competitor did not spread widely, especially since January closed and February began.

Some YouTube Music members now see a “Year in Review” in the Android app. If it’s live, you can tap on your profile avatar in the top right corner to find the rewind icon in the account menu between “History” and “Paid Memberships”.

This ‘2020 Year in Review’ is a mini-home feed of four types of carousels. The playlist “My 2020 Year in Review” is at the front and in the middle, while Google notes how many hours you’ve been listening to and that it counts for individual tracks.

  • My top playlists
  • My top songs
  • My top albums
  • My top artists

Informatively, this is more or less similar to the email some customers received late last year, but there are no statistics, including how many songs you listened to, total hours, and best listening month. That said, it offers a much more interactive experience and is ideal for sharing via screenshots.

Like the first summary, this 2020 Review is not currently widely released, but YouTube Music probably chooses this approach rather than continuing the emails.
