YouTube incorrectly suspended and re-tuned the channel for a British radio station, backed by billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch, a spokesman for the video platform confirmed to The Hill on Tuesday.
The company said the account for TalkRadio, which is owned by Murdoch’s News Corp, originally went bad over YouTube’s policy regarding the distribution of COVID-19 misinformation.
“TalkRadio’s YouTube channel was briefly suspended but has now been re – tuned,” the spokesman said. “We make exceptions to material posted for an educational, documentary, scientific or artistic purpose, as considered in this case.”
It was unclear what content caused the initial suspension. A YouTube spokesperson did not respond when asked for further details.
“YouTube makes decisions about what opinions the public may hear, even if they are obtained from responsible and regulated news providers,” TalkRadio said in a statement.
Despite the radio station saying that the channel was not yet available, the account was accessible and the videos could be seen during publication.
YouTube has previously taken action against news networks that they say are disseminating information about the coronavirus that is contrary to the consensus of public health institutions.
The platform suspended the pro-Trump One America News Network from posting new videos for a week last November because they claim there is a guaranteed cure for COVID-19.
