Young Lexington girl hit with a bullet on New Year’s Eve

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A little girl was hit by a bullet on New Year’s Eve in Lexington while she was in her house.

Police said they received dozens of calls from gunmen during the night, something not uncommon on New Year’s Eve.

But just before midnight, police were called to the 400 block of East Sixth Street for a report of a youth injured by gunfire.

Police said several rounds entered the house and beat a girl younger than 10.

The child was taken to hospital with police who did not describe life-threatening injuries.

Police told WKYT that they do not suspect the house was targeted.

About an hour later, police were called to nearby Race Street for a report of another house damaged by gunfire.

Two adults and four youths were in the home. No one was injured in that incident.
