You have to play Marvel’s Avengers a little longer to rise

New update for customizing XP and external mechanics

Developer Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix have announced a new update for their comic strip Marvel’s Avengers. If it falls on March 18, the new amount of XP delivered to the player will slow down, slowing down each character’s progress and taking longer to compile Avengers.

In a statement on its official blog, Crystal Dynamics stated that the reason behind this step was to prevent players from being overwhelmed early on with skill points and attributes. By slowing down the leveling process, players will have the opportunity to explore the skills and abilities of a hero at a more relaxed pace, rather than chasing them with a hypothetical choice from six new moves to a single boss fight.

“In most RPGs, the amount of XP you need to ascend increases as you get levels in a curve, but our system is a straight line. This has led to pace issues, such as skill points that are currently too high. “quickly rewarded, which may be confusing and overwhelming for newer players. We want every decision to make more sense to invest in a skill or heroic.”

This school of thought do makes some sense – slowing down the flow of skills and abilities will encourage further experimentation with character formation. But the thing here is that people who has devoted time to play Marvel’s Avengers will now be in the groove of the title’s “flow”. Implementing a big tempo change, late in the day, can irritate the dedicated player base, from which the game irritates Marvel’s Avengers‘is already smaller than Square Enix would like. Any positive aspects of this update would probably be more appropriate for someone starting the game anew – perhaps with the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X release – but whether a new community of players even exists in a different matter.

In a weird bit of a double whammy, the statement also suggests that players who want to quickly maximize their heroes to a maximum of 50 should do so before the update drops, implying that the current XP rate is the adopted meta for the game, and only serves to make the incoming change seem all the more intrusive to the community of the game.

Furthermore, the new update will also make changes Marvel’s Avengers external system. As outlined by Crystal Dynamics, players will no longer receive random cosmetic drops via methods such as lifting, completing tasks, and opening strong boxes. Instead, certain rare items will be offered for sale directly at Units, Chastity McBryde, at Units. Chastity’s store will be redesigned to allow this. Crystal Dynamics hopes it offers players more agency in the rewards they deserve.
