LG is not the only major electronics manufacturer experiment with rollable devices. On his CES at a press conference on Monday, TCL once again showed an update of its rollable action, releasing a new video of the concept device expanding and retracting in a woman’s hands.

Not much is known about the device, but Tiago Abreu of TCL, head of the “X-Lab” at the TCL Industrial Design Center, says in the video that it goes from a 6.7-inch phone to a 7.8-inch tablet can go with a simple tap of the finger. ‘Abreu says the user interface will adapt to the change, but exactly what it looks like has not been shown.

Judging by the video, the back of the TCL device can be very reflective as the video shows the woman flipping through the device to apply lipstick and apparently using the phone as a mirror.

Had TCL teased a rollable concept last year, but it was largely limited to mere prototypes.

Stefan Streit, general manager of global marketing for TCL’s phone businesses, told CNET the company will release a phone with a flexible screen in 2021, although he would not confirm whether it would be a foldable or a rollable device.

In addition to the roll-top phone, Abreu has also announced a new 17-inch printed OLED screen that can be folded open and contains a ‘100% color scale’. He says that the new screen technology, from TCL CSOT, ‘can be widely applied to flexible TVs, curved and foldable screens as well as transparent commercial screens.’
