ST. PETERSBURG, Florida – Gio Urshela has been placed on the COVID injury list due to side effects from the vaccination, the Yankees announced Friday.
The third baseman was initially in the series, but was scratched and replaced by Tyler Wade. DJ LeMahieu moves on to third base, and Wade starts on second base.
Many members of the Yankees’ travel company – players, coaches and staff – were vaccinated on Wednesday, before and after the game.
Mike Ford, who was already in the taxi group and was with the team for their series against the rays on Tropicana field, has been officially recalled from the alternative site.
