The Yankees are leading the way in getting a starting pitcher Jameson Taillon of the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to Mark Feinsand.
Although nothing is at hand, Pittsburgh has already traded Josh Bell and Joe Musgrove this season in an apparent rebuild, and signs suggest that Taillon will be next, Fine sand Saturday noted.
Taillon has been more than serviceable in the biggest leagues since 2016 – he has a career of 3.67 ERA (190 earned runs / 466.0 overs), a 3.55 FIP and a 1,247 WHIP while hitting 8.1 batsmen per nine overs. Taillon was rammed through an injury early in his career, but threw 191.0 overs in 2019.
Taillon and the Pirates recently agreed on a $ 2.25 million deal, to avoid arbitration, and the 29-year-old is under team control through the 2022 season.
The Yankees’ opening day rotation appears to be over time Gerrit Cole – Jordan Montgomery and recent addition Corey Kluber are apparently the two locks to be followed, but Luis Severino will only return to the Tommy John operation in the summer. Deivi Garcia, Clarke Schmidt, Mike King, en Jonathan Loaisiga are also possible rotation options.
An agreement with the Yankees will reunite Taillon with Cole, who were teammates in Pittsburgh in 2016 and 2017.
