Yale University: US abandons discrimination

The DOJ did not explain why he dropped the case in his brief attachment to a federal court in Connecticut.

The case was originally filed in October when the department, led by then-Attorney General William Barr, claimed: “Yale annually rejects a number of Asian American and white applicants on the basis of their race.”

The decision to drop this lawsuit is the last step by Biden’s government to change its position in several cases pending in federal courts across the country. The new government also recently asked the Supreme Court to interrupt arguments in matters concerning the border wall between America and Mexico and US asylum policy.

The case against Yale comes on the heels of a similar case against Harvard University, where a group against affirmative action sued the university, claiming that their admissions practices against Asian American students are being discriminated against. Lower courts have ruled that Harvard does not discriminate in its admissions decisions.

The Trump administration has filed the Yale lawsuit as part of its push against universities competing in admissions decisions.
