Xiaomi Mi 11 officially launches with Android 11, Snapdragon 888

With 2021 just a few days away, the first smartphone with next year’s flagship chip becomes official. The Xiaomi Mi 11 has been announced – this is what brings it to the table.

With the Mi 11, Xiaomi ships the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. This is a very capable specification sheet without major compromises. Xiaomi has also packed Gorilla Glass Victus, speakers set by Harmon Kardon, and many extra features, such as an IR blaster and a fingerprint sensor on the screen, which pulls dual duties as a heart rate sensor. Granted, the last one is pretty awesome.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 also features a killing camera setup. There’s a 108MP primary camera with OIS and 4-in-1 pixel binning, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera at 123 degrees, and a 5MP telephoto shooter. As for the selfie shooter, there’s a 20MP camera in a hole punch – no great camera under the screen yet.

The screen itself is a 6.81-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sample rate. It can also hit 1,500 neat brightness in a pinch and also has curved sides.

Xiaomi is also shipped with MIUI 12 based on Android 11. *

As for the battery statistics, there is good and bad news. The battery cell is at 4,600 mAh, which is respected given the rest of the package. To charge it, the phone can control up to 55 W wireless charging or 50 W wireless charging. The phone can also reverse the wireless charging for another device at 10W.

To charge the phone, however, you need to have a brick lying. In the footsteps of Apple, Xiaomi dropped the embedded charger on Mi 11, citing “environmental protection efforts”. However, a version of the phone is sold in a bundle with a 55W GaN charger and will cost the same price (from 3999 RMB) in China.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 is sold in Midnight Gray, Horizon Blue and Frost White, all of which come with stained glass rear panels. Alternatively, Lilac Purple and Honey Beige colorways will have vegan leather. The Mi 11s 8 GB + 128 GB, 8 GB + 256 GB and 12 GB + 256 GB variants cost RMB 3999, RMB 4299 and RMB 4699 respectively and will be available in China from today.

More about Xiaomi:

* This article has been updated to explain that the Mi 11 is shipped with Android 11, not Android 10 as previously claimed. This confusion was due to a typo in Xiaomi’s official announcement message about the device that incorrectly states that the Android is using Android 10 rather than 11.
