Xbox series X rumors provoke possible return of classic series

A new rumor has teased the possible return of a classic series on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Unlike PlayStation and Nintendo, Xbox does not have an abundance of incredible IP. It has Halo, Gears of war, Force, Fable, and a few other heavy hits, but it’s not enough to keep up with its biggest competitors. Once the acquisition of ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda, has been completed, it adds Dropout, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM, Wolfenstein, and more to its arsenal of IP, it may even work, but until then, and for its entire existence in the gaming space, Xbox has an IP problem.

It is said that there is an IP on which it sits and which has value. Last year, he announced revivals for two of the biggest examples of this: Fable and Perfect Dark. There is still more IP that Microsoft can fetch. For example, Killer Instinct. Shall Killer Instinct never be as big as be street fighter or Mortal Kombat? Probably not, but it’s an IP with a lot of potential that Microsoft tried to revive on the Xbox One, but after this unsuccessful attempt it did not affect the series. However, this is apparently not due to a lack of desire.

During a recent episode of Xbox Two, Xbox insider Jez Corden revealed that he heard that Microsoft wants to do something new Killer Instinct, but did not find the right partner to develop the game.

“I know Microsoft wants to do Killer Instinct,“Corden said.” It’s not like they do not want a sequel. It’s just that they had no one to make them, at least that’s what I was told. ‘

As mentioned earlier, Microsoft tried to bring Killer Instinct back from the grave in 2013 on Xbox One. However, not only did the revival set the world on fire, but its developer, Double Helix Games, was acquired by Amazon not long after. When that happens, Iron Galaxy Studios comes into the picture to develop the second and third seasons of the game. That said, while Iron Galaxy Studios is an excellent studio, it is not an industry leader or a leading team, which may explain why they were not tapped for a sequel.

That being said, for now take everything here with a grain of salt. Although the source in question has proven reliable in the past, nothing here is official and it is not 100 percent clear whether it is up to date.

As always, feel free to leave a comment to let us know what you think or hit me on Twitter @Tyler_Fischer_ and let me know there. Would you like to see Killer Instinct return to Xbox Series X?
