Xbox Game Studios wanted to give you a quick reminder of what they’re still working on Age Of Empires IV three years later. Occasionally since the game was announced in the summer of 2017, we get some news about it, but nothing really important. The time seems to have been spent mainly on the release of Definitive Editions from the previous three games. But after concluding the year on their own news section, the team decided to give a small update that you can read AOE4 part of it below. Although they talk about some of the developments, there is no clear way outlined by the team on when we will see the match.
We are making great progress with Age Of Empires IV. I do not want to make you jealous, but we play this game literally every day – in Washington as well as in Vancouver.
RTS development is funny: it takes a while to build the separate systems (AI, economy, sim, version, etc.), and then it takes a while before they come together. But if they do, you suddenly have a game – a game that needs debugging and balance and polishing – but the core of the game you know you’ve going to send. And the best part is that it’s like a Age of Empires games.
Our partners at Relic were incredible stalwarts as we migrated the development from office to home and changed our processes (through trial and error) to facilitate productivity to keep the game on track. So much passion, such great developers, artists, designers, narrators, sound experts and community – not to mention the backbone features that keep the business going.
