After launches FPS Boost feature in February with a handful of games, Microsoft has announced that five more games, all from Bethesda, will soon enjoy FPS Boost support.

This news comes from the latest episode of The Official Xbox Podcast. In the opening section, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb of Xbox Live and Jeff Rubenstein, senior communications manager of Xbox, discussed Bethesda’s recent acquisition by Microsoft. To celebrate the agreement is a bunch new Bethesda games added to Game Pass. But what excites me more is that five Bethesda games on the service will soon get FPS Boost support, a feature that allows older games to work on higher frames on the Xbox Series X and Series S.

The five matches involved are Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Prey, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, and Dishonored: Definitive Edition.

Something interesting, if you care about these things, it’s Outcome 4 was one of those very first games we saw using FPS Boost back before the new feature had an official name. In a short video presented last October without much context, Microsoft showed Outcome 4 running at 60 frames per second. Although Xbox players have been able to use all of the game’s support modules to achieve similar performance enhancements, it’s going to be an official feature soon.

Set the video to 720p60 or 1080p60 to really see the difference.

The podcast gave no specific date for the expectation that this latest series of games would get FPS Boost support. It sounds like it could happen if the next major Xbox Series X / S update roll out, which will add per-game settings so players can switch Auto HDR and FPS Boost on games that support it.

I recently checked FPS Boost and was impressed. It made older games feel more modern and playable without the need for extra mods or downloads. I’m excited to see something like this Dropout 76 will work with FPS Boost as the performance on consoles is notorious. But now this Dropout 76 is pretty good, it would be great to see it work better on next generation Xbox consoles.
