If you ever wanted a zombie game where you played as the dead instead of fighting back, you’ll have a chance again soon. Stobbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse will be released again on March 16 for PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One and can be played on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S through backwards compatibility.
Aspyr Media, the company that originally published Blunt the zombie, is handling the port. The studio recently worked on porting Star Wars Episode I: Racer modern consoles, so it is safe to say that this remaster is in good hands.
Originally released on the Xbox in 2005, Blunt the zombie let players control the titular character with the main goal of sowing destruction and devouring human brains. This is a third-person action title developed by the now defunct Wideload Games. The game also came to Windows and Mac OS X about a month after the original release date, with a version appearing on Steam nearly two years later, which was later removed from the platform.
The announcement is good news for fans who played the original 2005. In recent years, Blunt the zombie has become one of the rarest games to own on the original Xbox. Microsoft made the game digitally available for the Xbox 360 in 2008 as an Xbox Originals title, but the company made it to the Xbox Live Marketplace late. With no other way to play the game in almost a decade, your only option was to own an original Xbox console and a physical copy, which is quite expensive.
