Xbox CEO Phil Spencer discusses the Xbox Game Pass enrollment service and teases big things that will come before 2021.
Microsoft has made it clear that its strategy to move to the next generation of games focuses primarily on Xbox Game Pass service. Xbox Game Pass, for the uninitiated, gives subscribers instant access to more than 100 games on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, not to mention many other bonuses. And it looks like Microsoft will continue to focus on Xbox Game Pass in 2021, with Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, teasing big things about the service in the new year.
In conversation with Major Nelson, Spencer talked about the success of the Xbox Game Pass service. He also teased that 2021 ‘is just going to be an incredible year’ for Xbox Game Pass. Spencer said that 2021 will be big for Xbox Game Pass because of the series of games, and that it will reach more people. This is probably a reference to the fact that Xbox Game Pass will be coming to iOS devices in the spring of 2021, which will open the service to a bunch of potential new subscribers.

Whatever games Spencer may be referring to, it could be just about anything. Xbox Game Pass added some important new titles in 2020, and 2021 should be no different. This will of course include first-party Xbox games and exclusive titles for Xbox consoles, which will debut on the first day of the Xbox Game Pass.
The first major new Xbox game to come to Game Pass in 2021 is The medium. A horror game from Low fear Bloober Team studio, The medium will be available on Xbox Game Pass as soon as it launches on January 28th. An exclusive Xbox Series X console, The medium is one of the very first console-exclusive games released for Microsoft’s next generation console. Many other exclusive games on the Xbox console are also planned for 2021, including Halo Infinite in the fall.
Meanwhile, Microsoft will no doubt want to strengthen the Xbox Game Pass series with third-party titles and multiplatform releases. According to rumors, the Ubisoft + series will possibly come to Xbox Game Pass, which will be a big boost for the service. Whether that will happen remains to be seen, but the rumor is supported by credible insiders in the industry.
Along with all of these games and other bonuses, Microsoft probably also has some big Xbox Game Pass surprises up its sleeve for 2021. Hopefully, Xbox fans will learn more about the company’s Game Pass plans sooner rather than later.
