Wyze’s new color-changing LED light bulbs cost $ 35 for a pack of four

On Tuesday, Wyze announced the long-awaited Wyze Bulb Color, a welcome counterpart for the $ 8 Wyze light bulb. Despite tackling color-changing features, the new LED costs about the same as the Wyze light bulb, which has only white light. The Wyze Bulb Color is now available in a four-pack for $ 35 (after the pre-order period, it increases to $ 40). Some light bulbs are not yet for sale, but the price is $ 8.75 each during pre-order and $ 10 each thereafter.

The Seattle company is known for hosting affordable home products, ranging from security cameras on thermostat and more. In the past year, Wyze has been particularly busy adding the Wyze Cam v3, the Wyze Cam Outdoor, the White Thermostat, the Wyze Video Deurbel, Wyze Noise Canceling Headphones, the Wyze Robot Vacuum, the Wyze Sprinkler Controller en a Wise Home Monitoring Service.

But Wyze was a little slow to introduce additional lighting products. This is especially true when we award the success of the Wyze Bulb, which won a CNET Editors’ Choice Award, for its excellent performance, excellent value and optional voice control with Alexa and Google Assistant smart speakers and screens.

The Wyze Bulb Color has the same Alexa and Google Assistant features, Wi-Fi connectivity, dimmability and color temperature adjustments in white light as the Wyze Bulb. But this product has a maximum output of 1100 lumens compared to the 800 lumens of the Wise Bulb. This is about the difference between a 75W and a 60W light bulb in terms of brightness.

Under the most affordable color-changing smart lamps now available, Cree’s Connected Max 60W replacement LED is our current favorite. Like the Wyze Bulb Color, Cree’s LED works via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, so there is no hub. But at 800 lumens and $ 10 per bulb, the Cree light is a little more expensive, and at least what Wyze’s specifications claim, it does not become as bright. We’ll have to test Wyze’s new color-changing light bulb to see how it keeps the competition in practice.

The Wyze Bulb Color works in the Wyze app, with a simple interface, easy scheduling (though I wish they would set up a sunrise / sunset feature) and optional integration with other Wyze products.

The pre-order period for the Wyze Bulb Color ends on March 9th. After that, four packages will still cost $ 35 for Wyze’s Cam Plus subscribers, but will jump you to $ 40 if you are not a subscriber. Since Cam Plus is an optional subscription service for Wyze’s security camera customers, it’s strange that the price of the LED is linked to Cam Plus. Regardless, the $ 5 increase will bring the regular selling price in line with the Cree Connected’s $ 10 per light bulb.
